Hosur at a Glance: Why It Is a Manufacturing Hub
Hosur is in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu, right next to the Karnataka border. It’s about 40 km from Bengaluru, and Bengaluru airport is also about 40 km away. The town has a nice climate all year round, a rare privilege for an industrial town.
The State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) established a large industrial estate in Hosur, accelerating industrial development in 1975. Later, other companies like Ashok Leyland, Titan and TVS started manufacturing here. Today, it is reported that Hosur has over 3500 industrial units and newer industrial parks are sprouting up around the area of Shoolagiri.
Three factors explain the continued flow of factories into the area. SIPCOT provides land on a 99-year lease, a vast network of small suppliers is present, and the roads to Bengaluru and Chennai are convenient. This is why manufacturing companies are adding new plants in Hosur.

Supplier & B2B Guide: How to Work With Hosur Manufacturers
- Understand the supply chain. Tier-1 suppliers procure for big makers like TVS and Ashok Leyland, which then procure from smaller firms. A previous report stated that 500-600 micro-autos around Hosur are dependent on these two companies.
- Prepare the quality papers. This is the baseline, and purchasers often ask for IATF 16949.
- Highlight your company profile and machine inventory, monthly capacity, major client base and sample parts.
- Avoid middlemen and go to the buyer’s website for supplier registration pages or purchase contacts.
- With a small trial use. The most effective way to get a larger trial lot is to deliver good quality and on time on the trial lot!
- Use your location. Hosur is about 40 km from Bengaluru, making it possible to provide just-in-time delivery to multiple plants.
- Explore emerging sectors: EVs, electronics, defence and aerospace. They require Precision Parts/Tooling, Packaging, Surface Finishing and Logistics.
- Think beyond parts. Factories also need transportation, canteens, safety equipment, repairs and warehouses. TVS Supply Chain Solutions has opened a large warehouse in Hosur.
- They are considering a plot in a SIPCOT site. Land is being leased for 99 years, with SIPCOT having plans to create another estate of 3,000 acres close to Shoolagiri and Denkanikottai.
- Be aware of local restrictions. Check power, water and employees’ housing early, as news reports indicate there has been no corresponding growth in roads, housing and basic services.
- Come to an agreement on payment terms beforehand – payment cycle, quality checks, etc. should be documented.
- Be prepared for Audits. With large buyers, be sure to have all records, safety rules and housekeeping in order before they offer to place an order for your product.
- Play to be quick and agile. “This new Hosur line has reduced lead time, and minimum order quantities reflect the value that buyers place on our products,” says Kanthal.
- Feed the laborers as well. Housing, food and transport companies also have jobs as Tata Electronics constructs dormitories for its employees, and news reports indicate a plan by the State government for industrial housing in Hosur.
- Ensure that all paperwork is in one location: GST registration, ISO certificates, test reports and previous order paperwork. These are the early questions buyers ask.
- Keep up to date with news about new parks. With the possibility of new buyers coming to the area from the planned SIPCOT estates and Horizon Industrial Park near Shoolagiri, it is wise to make a proactive approach.
Conclusion
Hosur has transformed itself from a quiet town to one of the busiest industrial towns in South India. Be it the old favourites such as TVS Motor, Ashok Leyland and Titan or newer names such as Tata Electronics, Ather Energy and Schneider Electric, they are adding new life to the electronics and Electric Vehicle business. The entire chain is kept in motion through the efforts of smaller companies that produce auto parts and wire, batteries and seats.
Candidates interested in the position should visit the official careers page of the companies and get ready their resume and necessary documents before applying. For suppliers, the most effective thing would be to obtain quality certificates and begin with a small order and gradually gain customers’ confidence. If you’re just looking to find out where the products are being made, this list of Manufacturing Companies in Hosur provides an example of how this one town can be producing motorcycles, trucks, watches, batteries and phone parts.
